Hi Ariaana,
Sorry for the slight delay in responding. Got a couple of big projects coming up and have been super busy as well as doing rehab because I got hit by a car when Triathlon training in October - almost good now.
I think the answer is a bit of both. While there is certainly a fanboy/girl aspect and trendiness about the feelings that people have about Apple there is certainly a great deal of good.
Generally I have not been a fan because of what I perceive as the closed nature of what they do and the control that has been exerted on the ecosystem around their products. This has been highlighted in the last few days with their EULA on the iBooks author program which appears to be trying to gain control over content you produce using their software. You can read a description of that at:

Having said all that part of the reason they seek to exert control is to give the user a seamless and trouble free experience and I can see why that is despite the fact that I prefer a more open system.
I have had an iPod for years and it just works - it synchronises easily and it just goes. After a long delay I have an iPad2 because it was bought for me by my partner and I just love it. It works on the go for me, its easy start process allows me to do stuff for 5 or ten minutes while waiting for a meeting or being on the tram. Its portability means we use it regularly for catch up video, etc. Its battery life is just great
If a company produces products that just work, that solve problems that others have struggled with, and continually delights the customer then they deserve the buzz and the profit margins. In the end the consumer has a choice.
Paul
