The idea of a school of journalism first dawned on Pulitzer in 1892, while he was confined to a dark room, suffering from asthma, insomnia, exhaustion, diabetes, manic-depression and failing eyesight. It took Pulitzer more than a decade to persuade Columbia to accept his money. Even then, the critics’ main question was never really answered: What would they teach at the Columbia Journalism School? A few weeks ago I went to find out.

Filtering the Social Web to Present News Items



A Web start-up named Storify, aims to help journalists and others collect and filter all this information.

Paul Higgins: This was used to produce a summary of a Twitter chat on the future of relationships. We posted a blog on this last week on the 23rd April which you can see HERE. This seems very useful for this sort of approach. Not sure how well it will work for journalism generally

Keep your government open and honest — share public documents with The Times

Paul Higgins: An interesting piece on journalism and partnerships with the community. In a time when resources to support journalism are falling a partnership between the community and journalists is even more important for democracy and good governance. Partnership of course means a two way street which is what is happening here.
