Technology Review’s I.T. Editor, Tom Simonite, reviews a Vgo telepresence robot. Simonite is located in TR’s San Francisco office and uses the robot to communicate “face-to-face” with colleagues in Cambridge, Massachusetts.(2.37 video)

DARPA-funded LittleDog robot shows off new tricks

LittleDog is a four-legged robot designed to learn how to negotiate and traverse unknown rugged and complex terrains. The 5-inch-tall quadruped, manufactured by Boston Dynamics, has been recently upgraded with an impressive set of improved locomotion skills thanks to researchers at the University of Southern California

Throwable robot and remote-controlled mini-helicopter unveiled as latest battlefield surveillance technology

Soldiers on the battlefield could soon benefit from new state-of-the-art surveillance equipment that can remotely pinpoint snipers, ambushes and explosive devices.

A throwable wheeled robot and a remote-controlled helicopter were both unveiled at a demonstration at the Defence and Equipment Support at Abbey Wood, near Bristol.

The 500g robot, which is equipped with cameras and other sensors, is made from titanium and can be thrown by soldiers into buildings to see enemy activity…..
